Monumental DATA - My Doctorate of Design at Harvard GSD
So far, my career (and life) has been a bit of a cyclone. Recognising a glaring lack of funding and philanthropy for the arts in my native UK, I became fixated on seizing opportunities wherever they arose globally. Setting off at 18, I have been in constant motion ever since.
My journey has traversed various fields and continents, from anthropology in Norwich to teaching English in Brighton and Cambodia to working in museums in the U.S., co-founding and directing my spatial design studio in Seoul, graphic designing for advertising and gaming start-ups in Berlin, to lecturing Environmental Design in China. I've showcased my art from Maribor to Saigon, New Hampshire to Marseilles. My drive to create, research, write, and design has persisted throughout these endeavours, culminating in my current body of work - installation art, audio, sculpture, film, costume, gaming, and beyond...
I am now delighted to announce that I have been accepted to Harvard University as a doctoral candidate. Here, I have the opportunity to weave these diverse threads together in my new research. As outlined in my proposal (below), I will delve into the creation of innovative public monuments. This opportunity marks the next chapter in my lifelong commitment to art, politics, storytelling and justice - transforming monuments into urban artefacts that serve both present and future generations, rather than merely tethering us to the past.
