Humans across the globe celebrate Gods and Spirits by placing them on their roofs. Gargoyles, Greco-Roman gods, and in Korea, Orchogany.
We wrote and ran a workshop with high school students who researched mythology from the local area and made Gods and spirits from the stories they found. These formed a permanent public installation on Incheon Art Platform roof.
I made two sculptures from a local folk story. Two brothers kept birds, one brother’s bird had a broken leg and he nursed it back to health, earning him the reward of a pumpkin full of treasure. The other brother observed this and broke his bird’s leg so he could nurse it back to health, but his reward was a pumpkin full of demons. During this period I nursed an injured baby pigeon, and made its votive image on the roof.
